In the up and down world of IT most of us have experienced or heard of someone being fired in a manner that we would find less than completely professional. Of course these things happen and while it is never a good situation having to fire someone, would you do this? For your sake, and that of your family I hope not! Maybe I’ve watched too many episodes of the Sopranos, but I’m thinking payback would come tenfold.

Now without taking the survey too seriously (see the “nonscientific” disclaimer), it does make me wonder if this type of response speaks more toward the fact that the people included in the survey (40,000 Yahoo Messenger users) just are younger and don’t understand how to deal with professional relationships or because as the modes of communication change they don’t feel any difficulty in delivering this type of information over e-mail, text messages, or IM. Either way, you may want to block texts and IM’s from your boss if things haven’t been going so well for you at the office.
