Facebook; Not just for “Hooking Up” anymore?

I’ve heard for 2 or 3 year now how “Facebook” is such a powerful tool and so critical to a successful Recruiters life. It was so refreshing to read a post on CIO.com that said point blank they felt it was a waste of time!

When I usually heard these comments I’ve usually felt like the world had passed me by and at the over-the-hill age of 45 I was no longer hip enough to get what’s happening out there. I now realize there’s a whole “underground sub-culture” of business professionals who desire to be truly productive and thereby don’t find receiving regular updates from old college buddies and ex-girlfriends as a value add. As the author states, I’m on LinkedIn (In spades) and while those connections may be more formal in nature, is sharing my love for Jackson Brown music or Jackson Pollock paintings truly relevant to the value proposition I propose?

Your thoughts and opinions are welcome. Please tell me why I should be on Facebook (or MySpace for that matter).
